Sustainable 60: Sleep Fundamentals

Did you know that the main reason Americans typically don't get enough sleep is due to voluntary sleep loss? As a culture, we are generally choosing to let sleep- one of the most crucial physical needs we have- lose priority in our lives (All About Sleep, Precision Nutrition). One could argue if we limited the amount of screen time and increased our stress management tactics, many of us would sleep like newborn babies and maybe the sleep deprivation epidemic in America wouldn't be so bad.

Studies also show that repetitive actions are one of the primary ways we communicate with and train our bodies. In other words, your sleep "habits" are the key to your good or bad sleep outcomes. If you can create strong, sustainable night time (and day time) habits geared towards promoting quality sleep, you might just be sleeping like a champ in no time.

And because sleep is so crucial to your overall health, mood, and quality of life, optimizing your sleep habits might just be the secret ingredient you need to see change in other areas as well..

For the 60 day challenge, we're going to test your overall sleep habits by breaking it down to one simple habit:

Set a bedtime before the challenge begins that you think is practical, reasonable, and realistic for the next 60 days and get to bed on time most days per week (4/7 days).
