About Nutrition Coaching: What to expect as an LET client
If we claim that sustainable health is our main goal for our clients, we have to do things differently than the rest of the health industry. Since nutrition is the number one area of the industry clouded with misinformation, scams, and fads, we want LET to be a place where you can be confident you are getting accurate information with your best interests at heart. Here is what you need to know about our Nutrition Coaching approach:
1.We let you be the expert.
If you’ve read our Coaching Philosophy blog, you’ve heard all about our stance on putting the client in the “expert seat” of their life. In any coach to client relationship, the coach has certain skills, licenses, and/or experiences that benefit the client. However, we believe that the coach’s job is simply to collaborate with their clients: to guide, ask questions, give resources, and ultimately help “steer” the client in the right direction. We believe that the “right” thing for the client is the thing that works for them. So in order to help you truly create a healthy, sustainable lifestyle that cultivates health in all areas, YOU will be seen as the ultimate expert on your life during your coaching experience with us. We want every coach and client encounter to end in you having what you need to take the next steps towards your Limited Edition life. In order to do that, we need YOU to collaborate with us to figure out what that means for you.
2. No one-size fits all programs or protocols.
There are HUNDREDS of things that influence our food decisions every day. Culture, accessibility, timing, food sensitivities or allergies, taste preference, past experiences, the people we are with, whether or not you are fighting a cold, hormones, how much sleep you got the night before, how long it has been since you last ate, how much water you have had to drink, and cost of food are just a few of the things that influence our food decisions every day. To add to this, everybody is different with different needs. There is no magic calorie or macronutrient amount your Nutrition Coach could assign to get you to your goals and help you sustain them.
Here at LET we aim to help you build the habits and skills it takes to support a healthy body, and to be able to sustain your health for years to come. In order to make that happen, each Nutrition Coaching experience is different. When you become an LET Holistic Health Coaching client, your coach will work with you to build the long-term skills and systems that will work for you.
3. No fad diets, gimmicks, scams, or pointless trends. Everything we teach is “common sense” and evidence-based science.
If it’s not backed by science and is not sustainable, we don’t coach it. If you can’t do it for a lifetime and it continue to support a healthy body and lifestyle, you will not find us talking about it! Our goal is to give you nothing but the simple, sustainable truth about nutrition.
4. No mandatory tracking of any kind.
You will never be required to track calories, macros, or your weight to work with us at LET. When the right habits and knowledge are present, these things- for most people- are truly not necessary. The only time you would ever track these things is if you and your coach decide it’s best for what you are trying to achieve.
5. You will not have to give up your favorite foods.
Creating a sustainable, healthy lifestyle does not mean subjecting yourself to a life without your favorite foods. We strongly believe in Positive Psychology here at LET. This means we like to focus on adding good things into our lives, always playing to our strengths, and reinforcing and strengthening good behaviors rather than taking things away, focusing on our “flaws,” and punishing bad behaviors. While working with your coach as a Holistic Health Coaching client, the ultimate goal will be to build strong, healthy nutrition habits, while creating room for the simple joys of food.
6. Everything is behavior-based.
Healing happens at the habit level. In Nutrition Coaching, we take this behavior-based approach to everything. Instead of counting calories and macros, we aim to help you build the foundational nutrition habits that matter more. For example, eating ENOUGH quality nutrients, minimizing processed foods and seed oils, getting the right amount of protein, and learning to decrease stress around your nutrition habits are more valuable skills than knowing how to track your calories in My Fitness Pal.
Reaching your nutrition goals happens when we optimize our habits around food. For us at LET, that means sticking to the fundamentals of nutrition we know to be true and getting really, REALLY good at them. It means keeping things simple, meeting our physical and emotional needs, and building the skills we need to see eating a nutritious diet comes naturally- one habit at a time.
7. Your coach won’t “tell you” what to do, but will work WITH you to solve your questions, reach your goals, and provide you with the resources you need to see success.
When it comes to building habits, reaching goals, increasing motivation and consistency, and creating a sustainable lifestyle, we have to take responsibility for our own actions. We can’t do that if we are always simply following directions from someone else. If all we did was obey someone else's directions, the steps we take would never fully be our own. Someone else would be responsible for our success or failure, and we would not walk away with the actual skills needed to reach our goals. During your Coaching experience at LET, your coach will do their best to keep the responsibility of your actions in your own hands. This means your coach will work with you to determine the next-best-steps for you during each meeting. Rather than your coach forcing you to follow a plan they wrote, you will be involved in every step, every decision, and every action needed to reach your goals.
Ultimately, your experience as a Holistic Health Coaching client will be unique. It will likely be different from any “health program” or coaching experience you have had thus far. We hope that these coaching principles, as well as the ones listed in the “Our Coaching Philosophy” and “About Personal Training” blogs, brings you hope that there is something out there that will work for you.
We would love to chat with you personally about what this experience could look like for you in a Complimentary Consultation. You can book yours here.
