To help you get started, here are 30 journal prompts to guide your Year-End Reflections and New Year Planning. While we encourage you to do these prompts in order, you can do them in whatever order you choose. Simply pick your prompt for the day, and write what comes to mind. Don’t stop writing till you leave with more clarity than you came with.
Start by looking back (reflecting)…
What are you doing now that you weren’t doing in 2021?
What would you say is the BEST thing that happened in your life this year?
What are you most proud of yourself for this year?
What’s one thing you wish you would have done differently this year?
What are the top 3 lessons you’re taking with you from this past year?
If you were to pick one word to describe 2022, what would it be? Why?
What changes did you experience in your life this year?
What were your biggest strengths in 2022?
What did you learn about yourself in 2022?
What were your hopes going into 2022?
What was the funnest experience you had in 2022?
What made you feel most alive in 2022?
What needs do you have that need to be met better in 2023?
What goals did you have going into 2022? How did they go?
If you had to sum up your 2022 in one sentence, what would the sentence be?
So you can look ahead with clarity:
What goals do you have for 2023?
What habits do you need to build and tasks do you need to accomplish in 2023 to help make those goals reality?
If you had to choose one word to describe your hopes for the 2023 year, what would it be?
How confident are you on a scale from 1-10, 10 being “completely confident,” that you can reach those goals? Why did you choose the number you chose? If you didn’t say “10,” what would give you a more confident rating?
What are you looking forward to the most in 2023?
What are your strengths? What are some ways you can rely on your strengths to help you achieve your goals this year?
What would you say are your biggest “weaknesses?” Are any of the things you listed things that can be changed or worked on? If so, how?
Reaching goals and building habits is primarily about using practical and simple methods. What are some INCREDIBLY simple and practical things you can start doing to help you take tiny steps towards your goals?
What is the ONE thing you want to accomplish most this year?
What are your dreams for life 5 years from now? What can you do this year to get you one step closer to that dream?
What are your hopes for this upcoming year?
What did you learn in 2022 that you can use to make 2023 an even better year?
What do you want to be able to look back on in 2023 and say? Fill in the rest of this sentence: “looking back at 2023, I’m proud of myself for ______”
How can you ensure that you enjoy the PROCESS of living + improving in 2023?
As you looked back on 2022, I asked the question: “If you had to sum up your 2022 in one sentence, what would the sentence be?” What do you want your sentence to be at the end of this next year that describes 2023?
